Planning Day 1

Planning Activity 1

snow -5 °C

Currently offshore at the minute and getting extremely excited at just the thought of flying to the other side of the world in September/ October.
I'm due home from the oilrig on Monday the 21st January after my two week trip out here. Snow is fairly bad in North Scotland and basically the whole of the UK at the minute, so here's hoping the helicopters can fly.

I got the idea of heading out to Oz after one of my good mates flew out for a holiday last yer. The descriptions he gave me of the wonderfully light blue seas and the incredible views and the architecture of Sydney were really too good to be true. So I told myself " To hell with it, I'm going to head out for a working holiday next year " And boom, here I am planning the trip of my lifetime.

I'm in the internet cafe offshore and the time is 02.55 am as I'm on nightshift. I searched into google ' How to apply for an Australian working holiday visa ' and up pops a load of results.

I clicked on this website called STAtravel which was great and got me intrigued even more. I read all about the various jobs you could do in Oz and found out if you work a fruit picking job or farming job for 3 months, you can extend your years visa to 2 years.

This got me even more interested, I then clicked back to google and found a website called UltimateOz.com.au. As soon as I saw the site I thought " This is defo the agent for me " :D.

I read through the different introduction packages they have and noticed that for a reasonable fee, they can set up everything for you. Everything from an Oz bank account, to Barman courses, Nursing courses, gaining you Oz tax I.D. and getting you all set up with an Oz sim card to call home.

They even apply for your working holiday visa if you select the option!

After being injected with all this info and realising how simple it can be, I'm going to book my flights next week and apply for my visa !

I then joined Travellerspoint.com and updated my profile, now Im off to hunt for a travel buddy / buddies, adios mi compadres!!

Hi Rob,
Welcome to Travellerspoint!
I think it's great you're making the big trip over and you've started planning thoroughly. My partner came over from Edinburgh last year and is still loving it.
Just wanted to let you know a lot of those intro sites sell services you can do for free yourself - bank accounts, Tax File Number, sim cards, etc. Check out the TP forums for suggestions on banks and phone carriers. There's been a lot of discussions in the past about these details.
Anyway, good luck. Hope to catch you here later in 2013!
